However, the previous weekend kicked off to a bad start. Much has been written about the churches that have been attacked so I'm not going to even go into that area for now. I would, however, like to point attention on the response of the Malay community about this whole unfortunate set of incidents from the get-go. Most have expressed dissatisfaction with the thinking of the perpetrators but that's a whole Pandora's box so again, I'm not going to go there
My feet however, found themselves doing the tourist trail to the Bukit Bintang area. I got off at the monorail station and found myself observing a peaceful event last Saturday afternoon at the busiest section in Bukit Bintang. It was an event participated in by a group of mid to late 20 year old's that was successful in the sense that people they approached took time to participate too.
The effort, organised by a local film-maker Chi Too, lasted about 3 hours and never ran out of flowers. The flower movement moved location once, from in front of Maybank to Pavillion- where unfortunately they had to give up as the security personnel there were quite persistent about needing a permit to use the premises. Fair enough...
What was most beautiful though, was how the semangat muhibbah I was brought up on, was present throughout. The participants respected the rights of all the people living in Malaysia and came together, united, to peacefully protest against abominable acts like what's been happening this last couple of days.
Not really fair to give up on the people of the country so easily, isn't it?
